The sawn-through mountain – Santa Maria de Montserrat

It  is a spiritual capital for the residents of this region, and also a symbol of national unity for the Catalans. It is located in the beautiful scenery of the lime rocks, that according to a legend, were made by the angels. Heaven’s messengers by means of the golden saws were supposed to make room among the rocks for the Mother of Jesus. What’s interesting, Montserrat means “sawn-through mountain”.

. The nave is 58 meters long and of an exceptionally eclectic structure. The finial of the huge temple constitutes of a just as huge semicircular apse, known as The Throne Chapel. That’s where the Black Madonna of Montserrat is located.
